Matt Gill Back With The Grecians
Exeter City have re-signed former midfielder Matt Gill on a short-term loan deal from League Two rivals Bristol Rovers.
Gill who made 164 appearances, scoring 14 goals for Exeter during his first spell at the club, will be reunited with former manager Paul Tisdale until January. The 32-year-old spent three seasons with the Grecians between 2006 and 2009, and was a key part of the Exeter side that won back-to-back promotions from the Conference Premier to League One before leaving when his contract expired in 2009 for Norwich City.
Tisdale told the club’s official website: “Matt is someone who knows his way around the club already and he will understand the core elements of the way we play. He should slot into the team seamlessly.”
Gill made 16 appearances for Norwich and had two loan spells at Peterborough and Walsall before joining Rovers in June 2011. He would be the club captain for the Pirates in the 2011/12 season, but after suffering a knee injury the playmaker has been told he has no future at the Memorial Stadium by manager, John Ward.
Matt began his career as a trainee with then league two side Peterborough United, he spent over seven years at Peterborough (1997–2004), making 149 first team appearances, scoring 5 goals. He moved to league two side Notts County for the 2004–05 season and went on to make 57 appearances for the Magpies before being joining to Exeter City on 16 January 2006.
